Filing in context
The Fuel hose/pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 26 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 150 Mitsubishi notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 2,159 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 months.
Defect
Inadequate work instruction verification for the fuel hose-to-fuel pipe connection procedure results in some fuel line joints being insufficiently seated. This causes fuel seepage at the joint. In the worst case, the joint separates completely, fuel leaks, the engine stalls, and the vehicle cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the fuel line joint for proper engagement and secure the connection fully.
