Filing in context
The Turn signal is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 26 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 32 Mazda notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 2,318 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 11 months.
Defect
In the front combination lamp turn signal, the inner diameter of the housing terminal mounting section is out of specification, resulting in insufficient contact pressure between the housing-side terminal and the bulb socket-side terminal. This poor electrical contact causes the front turn signal to stop flashing when activated and may cause the turn signal indicator lamp to flash at an abnormally rapid rate.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the front combination lamp configuration. On affected units, add a silicone rubber insert to the bulb socket-side terminal section.
