Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the High-Tension Cable as the affected component. This filing is one of 40 Isuzu notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 1,087 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 3 months.
Defect
The distributor-side connector on the high-tension cable is incorrectly shaped, causing the cable to interfere with the distributor's ventilation hose and restrict airflow. This insufficient ventilation allows rust to form inside the distributor, causing unstable engine operation. In the worst case, the engine may stall and fail to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the high-tension cable (one cable) with a corrected part. Also inspect the interior of the distributor; if rust is present, replace the distributor with a new unit.
