Filing in context
The Pressure Control/Transmission Component is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 13 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 36 Mitsubishi notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 232 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 4 months.
Defect
The front brake hose mounting position is incorrect, causing the hose to be twisted. Steering inputs generate excessive stress at the hose end fittings. Continued use may cause the brake hose to crack and leak brake fluid, reducing braking force. In the worst case, braking performance may be significantly degraded.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the brake hose and intermediate mounting bracket with corrected parts. (Because supply of corrected parts requires additional time, as an interim measure all owners will be notified of the defect, and the brake hose and intermediate mounting bracket will be replaced with corrected parts at a later date.)
