Defect
The grease applied to the ignition switch contacts contains an inappropriate formulation. When the ignition switch is turned off slowly, arc discharge duration at the contacts is extended, raising contact temperature and hardening the grease. Repeated slow switch-off operations cause cuprous oxide to form on the contacts, resulting in poor conductivity. During driving, vibration can then trigger a loss of continuity at the contacts, causing the engine to stall with no possibility of restart. Additionally, localized overheating of the contacts may melt the solder on the reverse side of the contact assembly and, in the worst case, cause the molten solder to fall onto the driver's foot, resulting in burns.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, replace the ignition switch with a corrected part.

状況
イグニッションスイッチ内の接点に塗布したグリスの成分が不適切なため、イグニッションスイッチオフ時の操作をゆっくり行うと、接点部のアーク放電時間が長くなり、接点部の温度が上がるとグリスが硬化し、その操作が繰り返し行われると、接点に亜酸化銅が生成されて、接点部に導通不良が生じるものがある。そのため、走行時の振動等で接点が導通不良となり、エンジンが停止し、再始動できなくなるおそれがある。また、接点が局部的に発熱し、接点裏側の半田が溶け、最悪の場合、運転者の足に落ちて火傷をするおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、イグニッションスイッチを対策品と交換する。
