Filing in context
The Engine (General) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 48 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 30 Mitsubishi notifications from 2000 in this archive. For scale, 578 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 10 months.
Defect
The injector driver—the electronic control unit that regulates fuel injection precision—is mounted in an incorrect position on the vehicle body. Continued driving on unpaved roads causes vibration to fracture the wiring at the internal boost capacitor mounting point. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving, leaving the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, fill the gap between the internal boost capacitor and the injector driver case with silicone bond.
