Defect

A manufacturing defect in the rectifier inside the alternator causes its resin components to contract when engine compartment temperatures rise repeatedly during extended low-speed traffic driving. This contraction produces poor electrical continuity in the rectifier circuit, generating sparks. Continued use may cause the circuit to melt or, along with smoke from the resin components, halt charging. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, add a spring washer to ensure electrical continuity in the rectifier circuit. Inspect the rectifier for damage, and replace the alternator with a known-good unit if damage is found.

状況

 交流発電機内にある整流器に製造不良のものがあるため、長時間の渋滞走行等で原動機 室内の温度が上昇し整流器の樹脂部品が高温になるような条件が長時間繰り返されると整 流器の樹脂部品が収縮し、整流器の電気回路が導通不良となりスパークが発生する場合が ある。このままの状態で使用を続けると当該電気回路が溶損あるいは溶損のうえ整流器の 樹脂部品が発煙して発電が停止し、最悪の場合、走行不能に至るおそれがある。

改善措置

 全車両、整流器の電気回路の導通を確保するためにバネワッシャを追加する。なお、整 流器の損傷状況を点検し、損傷しているものは交流発電機を良品と交換する。
