Defect
Field-returned passenger-side airbag inflators were found to exhibit reduced propellant density that may lead to abnormal deployment. Although the root cause has not been determined, inflators of the same type manufactured up to a certain date will be replaced as a precautionary measure.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, as a precautionary measure, replace the passenger-side airbag inflator with a new unit, prioritizing vehicles by age of manufacture, and collect the removed inflators for defect cause investigation. If replacement parts are unavailable, as an interim measure, disable the passenger-side airbag function and display a warning label on the passenger-side sun visor indicating that the airbag is inoperative.
