Defect
On vehicles equipped with the Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) driver assistance system — a system that assists with vehicle deceleration and steering based on surrounding conditions and driving status — the control program is incorrect. If the brake pedal is operated during a PDA deceleration control event, the brake may remain applied after the control event ends. This causes poor acceleration and, with continued use, brake overheating leads to smoke. In the worst case, a vehicle fire may occur.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the brake actuator control unit to the corrected specification. Additionally, inspect all brake-related components and replace any parts showing abnormalities caused by overheating.
