Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Lexus & Toyota.
The Computer (control device) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 3 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 8 Lexus notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 517 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years.
Defect
Issue 1: The vehicle stability control (VSC) system software is incorrect. If the VSC function is switched off and the system is then shut down with the brake pedal held, VSC does not return to the on state upon restart. The VSC-off indicator lamp remains illuminated and VSC may not operate. Issue 2: On the body near the shock absorber mounting area inside the engine compartment, incorrect welding equipment settings resulted in some vehicles leaving the manufacturing process without the required weld being applied. Continued use may cause cracking at that location and, in the worst case, may impair driving stability.
Corrective action
Issue 1: On all vehicles, reprogram the brake actuator control computer with the corrected software. Issue 2: On all vehicles, inspect the shock absorber mounting area for the presence of the required weld. If the weld is absent, apply the weld. If damage is found at that location, perform the necessary repairs.
