Filing in context
The Turn Signal is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 21 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 28 Toyota notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 628 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 8 months.
Defect
In the rear turn signal, the circuit board inside the LED socket has insufficient water resistance, allowing rainwater to drip into the socket and cause condensation on the board. Repeated cycling between condensation and drying under electrical load causes a short circuit to form on the board. In the worst case, the rear turn signal may become inoperative.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the LED socket of the rear turn signal with a corrected/revised part. On a subset of vehicles, also replace the housing to allow proper installation of the revised socket.
