Defect

On heavy-duty tractors equipped with an electronically controlled compressed air dryer, the air dryer regeneration program in the central chassis input/output module is incorrect. As a result, the dryer's desiccant regeneration cycle does not execute at the proper frequency, causing high-humidity compressed air to be supplied to downstream air tanks and trailer brake circuits where condensation accumulates. Continued operation causes system fault warning messages to be displayed as moisture spreads through the circuits. In the worst case, condensation in the trailer brake circuit may freeze, causing the trailer's service brakes to become inoperative or the parking brake to drag, leading to a vehicle fire.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reprogram the central chassis input/output module with the corrected/updated software. Additionally, on vehicles that have been in service for two months or more since initial registration, inspect the air output port of the compressed air dryer and, if desiccant particles or other contamination are present, replace the air dryer cartridge with a new unit.

状況

大型トラクタの電制エアドライヤーにおいて、セントラルシャシ入出力モジュールのエアドライヤー再生プログラムが不適切なため、当該ドライヤー乾燥再生動作が適切な頻度にて行われず高湿度の圧縮空気が供給先のエアタンク及びトレーラーブレーキ回路内で結露し凝縮水が生成される。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、高湿度の圧縮空気が各回路に供給され結露によるシステム異常等の警告メッセージが表示され、最悪の場合、トレーラー側ブレーキ回路内で凝縮水が凍結し、トレーラー側の主ブレーキが効かない、または駐車ブレーキ引きずりにより火災に至るおそれがある。

改善措置

全車両、セントラルシャシ入出力モジュールのプログラムを、対策プログラムに書き換える。また、初年度登録から2カ月以上経過した車両は、エアドライヤーのエア出力ポートを点検し乾燥剤の粒子等が付着している場合は、エアドライヤーカートリッジを新品に交換する。
