Defect
The engine control program for light trucks contains an incorrect calibration for high-speed, high-load operation. Under these conditions, thermal cycling damage accumulates at the combustion chamber rim of the piston, causing cracks to form. Continued operation allows the cracks to propagate until a hole develops, resulting in loss of engine output and white exhaust smoke. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
Reprogram the engine control unit with the corrected software on all vehicles. Additionally, review vehicle operation data; on vehicles that have sustained high loads at high frequency, replace the engine with a corrected unit.

状況
小型トラック用エンジンにおいて、高回転高負荷時のエンジン制御プログラムが不適切なため、ピストン燃焼室口元部に冷熱ダメージが蓄積して亀裂が発生するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、亀裂が進行して穴が開き、エンジンの出力低下や白煙が発生し、最悪の場合、走行不能に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、エンジン制御プログラムを対策プログラムに書き換える。また、車両走行データを確認し、負荷及びその頻度の高い車両はエンジンを良品に交換する。
