Defect
On large trucks, the pre-plating acid-wash treatment applied to the clamping bolts of the front-front axle right-side tie rod end fixing clamps was performed incorrectly, causing hydrogen embrittlement that reduces bolt strength. Continued use in this condition can cause the bolts to fracture, introducing play at the tie rod end joint. In the worst case, the tie rod tube may break, resulting in loss of steering control.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the front-front axle right-side tie rod end fixing clamp bolts and nuts with corrected parts. If the bolts or nuts are damaged or missing, replace the tie rod as a complete assembly.

状況
大型トラックにおいて前前軸右側タイロッドエンドの固定クランプ締付けボルトのメッキ前処理(酸洗い)工程が不適切なため、水素脆化によりボルトの強度が低下しているものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、ボルトが破断してタイロッドエンド部にガタが生じ、最悪の場合、タイロッドチューブが破損して、操舵不能になるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、前前軸右側タイロッドエンドの固定クランプボルト/ナットを対策品と交換する。なお、ボルト/ナットが損傷または脱落している場合には、タイロッドをアッセンブリで交換する。
