Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Hino & Isuzu.
The Body is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 108 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Hino notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 3,745 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 13 years and 2 months.
Defect
On 4-axle container-dedicated vehicles, the shape of the upper fenders on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th axles is incorrect, causing rotating components to protrude beyond those fender sections. This configuration does not conform to the standards set forth in Article 18 of the Safety Standards.
Corrective action
Because the required correction varies by vehicle, one or more of the following measures will be applied as needed: (1) A corrected part is added to the 2nd-axle fender to prevent rotating components from protruding, and a spacer is installed at the mounting point of the center side-direction indicator. (2) The length of the right-side underride guard is changed. (3) A spacer is installed at the mounting point of the underride guard.
