Defect

The passenger-side airbag inflator contains a propellant charge that is inadequately protected against moisture absorption. Repeated cycles of temperature and humidity cause the propellant to degrade. During airbag deployment, this degradation may cause the inflator housing to rupture.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the passenger-side airbag inflator will be replaced with a corrected part. If parts are not available, an interim measure will be applied: the passenger-side airbag function will be disabled, and a warning indicating that the airbag is inoperative will be displayed on the passenger-side sun visor.
