Filing in context
The Fuel Filter is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 47 Mitsubishi notifications from 2016 in this archive. Defect
On four-wheel-drive minibuses, the fuel filter case is positioned such that road debris and stones thrown up during driving can strike it, causing cracks in the case. Continued use allows the cracks to propagate and fuel to leak, which in the worst case can result in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Install a steel protective plate in front of the fuel filter case on all vehicles. Additionally, inspect the fuel filter case and replace it with a new one if damage from road debris is found.
