Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Nissan, Nissan Diesel & UD Trucks.
The Differential is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 33 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 42 Nissan notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 2,530 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 3 months.
Defect
On rear two-axle drive trucks, the backlash between the spline section of the front flange on the forward rear-axle final drive and the spline shaft was set incorrectly, causing excessive force to act on the flange-to-spline shaft fastening bolts. The bolts cannot withstand the torque loads during vehicle launch and sustain damage. Continued use may cause the bolts to fracture, allowing the propeller shaft connected to the flange to detach and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the flange with a corrected part and replace the fastening bolts, washers, and spacers with new parts.
