Filing in context

The Other (power transmission) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 5 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 28 Hino notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 2,038 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 7 months.

Defect

On large tractors equipped with a 12-speed transmission, the surface hardness of the flange coupling end face at the rear of the transmission is insufficient. Bearing creep causes the flange coupling end face to wear, allowing the flange coupling fastening bolts to loosen. Continued use in this condition allows the flange coupling to work free and, in the worst case, detach together with the propeller shaft.

Corrective action

Replace the flange coupling and the affected bolts with corrected parts on all vehicles, and replace the thrust washer and O-ring with new components.
