Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Mitsubishi, Nissan & Nissan Diesel.
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Clutch cable / linkage as the affected component. This filing is one of 46 Mitsubishi notifications from 2012 in this archive. For scale, 2,522 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 7 months.
Defect
On large transit buses, the ball joint on the clutch booster has insufficient durability. Repeated clutch operation causes wear in the ball joint case. As the case wall thickness decreases and structural strength is reduced, the ball joint may fracture. In the worst case, the clutch becomes inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the clutch booster ball joint is inspected. Vehicles found to have a defective part have it replaced with a corrected part.
