Defect

The steering shaft coupling structure is improperly designed. When the vehicle traverses a large road step or bump, the retaining component that prevents shaft withdrawal may disengage. If the steering wheel is then turned repeatedly to full lock in this condition, the shaft may pull out entirely, resulting in loss of steering control.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the shaft withdrawal retaining component with the corrected part, add a shaft pull-out prevention stopper, and replace the shaft intrusion prevention stopper with the corrected part.
