Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Hino & Isuzu.
The Pressure Control and Transmission Unit is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 10 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 51 Hino notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 2,653 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 6 months.
Defect
On large-capacity route buses, foreign matter contaminating the brake fluid may cause brake fluid to leak from the brake booster. Continued operation allows the leak to cause the rubber components in the Hill Start Aid (HSA) system control valve to swell. In the worst case, the brake may become impossible to release.
Corrective action
As an interim measure, inspect the brake booster and HSA valve on all vehicles. Where brake fluid leakage is found, replace the affected components with new parts and flush the air lines.
