Filing in context
The Reverse Lamp is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 6 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 31 Nissan notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 1,554 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 1 month.
Defect
The reverse lamp switch mounted on the underside of the manual transmission has two separate defects. (1) Molding flash left on the contact-switching shaft during production results in insufficient sealing. Transmission lubricating oil may intrude into the switch interior, increasing resistance between the contacts. In the worst case, the reverse lamp may fail to illuminate. (2) Improper assembly during production causes the contact geometry to deform, resulting in insufficient contact pressure between the switch contacts. Arc discharge accelerates contact wear, and as wear progresses, in the worst case, the reverse lamp may fail to illuminate.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected reverse lamp switch with the corrected part.
