Filing in context
The Suspension Arm/Rod is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 24 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Honda notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 2,969 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
On four-wheel-drive vehicles, the weld joining the rear coil spring lower seat to the rear axle beam is insufficient. Vibration during driving causes the weld to detach and the seat to tilt, deforming the brake pipes secured to it. Continued operation damages the brake pipes and, in the worst case, allows brake fluid to leak, reducing braking force.
Corrective action
Inspect the serial number of the rear axle beam on all vehicles. Replace any affected beam with a conforming unit. On vehicles where the weld has already detached, also replace the brake pipes and brake hose with new parts.
