Filing in context
The Suspension Arm/Rod is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 24 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 31 Nissan notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 1,012 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 1 month.
Defect
On vehicles used primarily in taxi applications, the transverse link in the front suspension has insufficient strength. Extended use under severe conditions — such as repeated hill driving — may cause the link to crack. If an excessive external force, such as road contact, is then applied to a cracked link, the crack can propagate and, in the worst case, the link may fracture, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the transverse link with a corrected part. Because parts supply will take time, as an interim measure, inspect all transverse links for cracks immediately; replace any cracked link with a corrected part, and schedule replacement of crack-free links with corrected parts at a later date.
