Defect

The input shaft of the manual transmission is improperly machined, and on some units the oil supply hole was not machined into the shaft. As a result, oil is not supplied to the bearings of the gears mounted on the input shaft. Continued use causes abnormal noise due to insufficient lubrication and, in the worst case, bearing seizure that renders the vehicle undrivable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, inspect the input shaft for the presence of the oil supply hole. Any transmission found to be missing the hole must have the manual transmission replaced with a non-defective unit.
