Defect
The bellows section of the exhaust pipe has insufficient structural strength. When the engine retarder is engaged, the exhaust pipe resonates and cracks may develop in the bellows section. This may allow exhaust gas to leak from the affected area.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the exhaust pipe with the corrected part.
