For scale, 4,301 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 3 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with an auto-cruise system, a gap in the retaining hook of the actuating cable allows the cable to disengage from the groove of the auto-cruise lever when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed. If the disengaged cable rides up onto the hook, releasing the accelerator pedal may not reduce engine speed.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, add a cable retention cover to the affected hook.
