Defect
In the powertrain, the weld joining the torque converter and ring gear inside the 3-speed automatic transmission is improperly made on certain units. Repeated acceleration and deceleration can cause the weld to detach, allowing the ring gear to contact the transmission case and produce abnormal noise. Continued operation in this condition may cause the ring gear to fracture, damaging the oil cooler piping and resulting in an oil leak. In the worst case, this may lead to a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the torque converter assembly with a known-good unit.

状況
動力伝達装置において、3速自動変速機内部のトルクコンバーターとリングギヤの溶接 に不適切なものがあるため、加減速の繰り返し等により、当該溶接部が剥れることがあり 、リングギヤがミッションケースと干渉して異音が発生し、そのままの状態で使用続ける と、リングギヤ-が折損してオイルクーラー配管を破損し、オイルが漏れ、最悪の場合、 火災に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、トルクコンバーター一式を良品と交換する。
