Filing in context
The A/T is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 32 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Mitsubishi notifications from 2002 in this archive. For scale, 4,351 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
In the automatic transmission hydraulic system, some oil hoses were vulcanized improperly during manufacturing, resulting in insufficient rubber hardness. This reduces the clamping force of the hose clips. In the worst case, the hose may pull free, causing an oil leak that renders the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the oil hose with a conforming part.
