Defect

The retaining fitting that connects the automatic transmission control cable to the shift lever rod has insufficient holding force on certain vehicles. Repeated shift operations may cause the fitting to disengage, after which moving the shift lever will no longer produce a gear change.

On all vehicles, replace the connecting fitting with the corrected part.
