For scale, 871 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 8 months.
Issue
The mounting bolts for the stay on the flip-up rear gate may have been tightened with insufficient torque. Repeated opening and closing of the rear gate can damage the stay mounting point, causing the gate to drop and strike a person.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the tightening condition of the rear gate stay mounting bolts. If any bolt shows loosening or play, retighten to the specified torque. If the mounting area shows cracks or deformation, perform sheet metal correction, install a corrected/revised nut, and tighten to the specified torque.
