Filing in context

The Cooling system is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 5 Isuzu notifications from 1994 in this archive. For scale, 613 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 3 months.

Issue

If the engine overheats and use continues without correction, steam pressure causes the coolant auxiliary tank (sub-tank) to expand. This expansion crushes and blocks the overflow pipe routed between the sub-tank and the mudguard—the pipe responsible for discharging excess coolant. In the worst case, the sub-tank cap is forced off and coolant is ejected.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, change the material and routing position of the overflow pipe.
