Defect
Inadequate parts management for in-plant repair work allowed an incorrect fuel pump to be installed during assembly. The fuel level sender on the incorrect pump catches on internal components inside the fuel tank, causing the fuel level indicator to display an inaccurate reading. If the vehicle continues to be driven under this condition, the fuel supply is exhausted, the engine stalls while driving, and the vehicle cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the fuel pump with the correct production part.
