Defect

On vehicles equipped with electronic power steering (UDAS), the torque specification instructions and inspection system settings for the bolt securing the steering column shaft coupling are inappropriate, resulting in some bolts not being tightened to the specified torque. Steering operation can cause the bolt to loosen, producing abnormal noise. Continued use causes wear at the column shaft coupling. During steering maneuvers such as stationary turns, the mating surfaces of the coupling may shift, adversely affecting steering operability.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, inspect the column shaft bolt and nut. If loosening is confirmed, replace the steering column, column shaft, and bolt/nut with new parts and tighten to the specified torque.

状況

電子制御ステアリング(UDAS)装備車において、ステアリングコラムシャフトの嵌合部を締結するボルトの締付け作業指示、及び検査システムの設定が不適切なため、当該ボルトが規定トルクで締め付けられていないものがある。そのため、ステアリング操作でボルトが緩み、異音が発生し、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、コラムシャフトの嵌合部が摩耗し、据え切り等のハンドル操作時に嵌合の凹凸がずれて、ハンドルの操作性に影響を及ぼすおそれがある。

改善措置

全車両、コラムシャフトのボルトとナットを点検する。緩みが確認された場合は、ステアリングコラムとコラムシャフトおよびボルト/ナットを新品に交換し、規定トルクで締め付けをする。
