Filing in context
The Other Equipment is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 32 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 23 Mazda notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 1,667 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 11 months.
Defect
Due to improper signal processing of the wheel speed sensor input within the Parking Assist Unit, a mismatch may occur during reversing between the obstacle distance detected by the ultrasonic sensors and the travel distance calculated from the wheel speed sensor signal. As a result, the parking sensor indicator and buzzer that alert the driver to the position and distance of obstacles may not operate correctly. In addition, the rear detection function of the Smart Brake Support system—which applies brake control during reversing to avoid or mitigate a collision—may also fail to operate. Furthermore, on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, the AT erroneous-start suppression control (for both forward and reverse)—which suppresses sudden unintended acceleration caused by misapplication of the accelerator pedal—may also fail to operate.
Corrective action
Reprogram the Parking Assist Unit control software on all vehicles with the corrected/updated software.
