Defect
On emergency vehicles, improper jig selection during painting of the body-side ground nut threads allowed paint to adhere to the thread surfaces. This causes an oxide film to form between the ground nut and ground bolt, increasing electrical resistance and producing a poor connection. As a result, the beacon light may fail to illuminate, the siren may fail to sound, and the radio may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, re-tap the body rear-side ground nut threads to remove paint deposits.
