Defect

On large hybrid transit buses, the pulley span for the fan belt is set incorrectly, causing the belt to oscillate and develop excessive slack prematurely. Continued operation allows the belt to twist and repeatedly flex at its center, eventually causing it to split and disengage. This results in engine overheating.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, an idler pulley is added between the fan belt pulleys. The fan belt is also replaced with a new part.
