Defect
On heavy-duty trucks equipped with a urea selective catalytic reduction system (urea SCR system), the engine control unit software is incorrect. When urea solution level is low or urea solution quality is abnormal, the system alerts the driver; however, if the alert is not cleared, the engine restart inhibit control does not activate. As a result, exhaust emissions may fail to meet regulatory limits.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control unit software.
