Filing in context
The Fuel Tank is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 79 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 9 Daihatsu notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 4,101 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 6 months.
Defect
On camping conversion vehicles, the fuel tank was relocated using an improper method, leaving insufficient clearance between the fuel pipe cover and the leaf spring. During rough-road driving, the cover and spring may contact each other. Continued use under these conditions can cause a crack to develop at the base of the fuel pipe, and in the worst case, fuel may leak from the cracked area.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, remove the relocation spacers and modify the fuel filler opening in the side skirt to install a revised fuel lid. Inspect the fuel tank and, if damaged, replace it with a new unit.
