Defect
On large transit buses equipped with an automatic transmission, improper bolt tightening procedures for attaching the torque converter backing plate to the converter cover, combined with inadequate thread machining on the converter cover, result in insufficient bolt clamping force on some units. Continued operation may cause the bolts to fracture. Fractured bolts can become trapped between the converter cover and the turbine. In the worst case, the torque converter may lock up, causing an engine stall and leaving the vehicle unable to move.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, replace the backing plate mounting bolts with new ones and retighten them to the specified torque.

状況
自動変速機を搭載した大型路線バスにおいて、トルクコンバータ部バッキングプレートのトルクコンバータカバーへの取付けボルト締付け方法およびトルクコンバータカバーのねじ部加工が不適切なため、当該ボルトの軸力が不足しているものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けるとボルトが折損し、折損したボルトがトルクコンバータカバーとタービンとの間に挟まり、最悪の場合、トルクコンバータがロックアップした状態となり、エンストして走行できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、バッキングプレート取付ボルトを新品に交換し、規定トルクで締め直す。
