Filing in context
The Pressure Control and Transmission Components is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 7 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Honda notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 2,211 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 11 months.
Defect
In the brake system equipped with a Dual Combined Brake System — which links front and rear brakes to operate together — the second master cylinder that transfers braking force from the front wheel to the rear wheel during braking has an improper structural design. Zinc compounds leaching from the brake hose react with components in the brake fluid, forming deposits that may block the hydraulic passage responsible for releasing brake pressure. This causes the rear brake to drag. If operation continues in this condition, the rear brake overheats and, in the worst case, a vehicle fire may result.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the second master cylinder with a corrected part. Clean the brake lines and replace the rear master cylinder with a new unit.
