Filing in context
The Engine Control Computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 18 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 31 Honda notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 358 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 months.
Defect
The engine control unit (ECU) program is incorrect, causing wheel speed data to be stored incorrectly. The ECU may falsely determine that the vehicle is traveling on a slippery surface. This causes engine speed to rise slightly during driving and applies excessive load to the drive pulley shaft. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, in the worst case the shaft may fracture, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control unit with the corrected software.
