Filing in context

The Computer (powertrain) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 17 Honda notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 914 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 months.

Defect

On vehicles equipped with a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission, the Transmission Driver Unit (TDU) software is incorrectly programmed. When the vehicle is started, a clock accuracy difference exists between two IC types that monitor gear-change actuator output, causing the system to incorrectly determine that startup preparation is incomplete even when it has finished. As a result, the transmission warning lamp on the meter display flashes, a "Check Transmission" message illuminates, and the vehicle may fail to start from a parked state.

Corrective action

Reprogram the Transmission Driver Unit (TDU) on all vehicles.
