Filing in context
The Exhaust pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 32 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 46 Isuzu notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 3,147 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 9 months.
Defect
On medium-duty trucks, the exhaust pipe structure is inadequate. Engine resonance and repeated thermal cycling impose excessive stress on the exhaust pipe, causing cracks to develop in the exhaust pipe, exhaust pipe brackets, and clamps. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, in the worst case, noise levels may increase significantly. Interim measure: If abnormal noise or other irregularities are detected from the exhaust pipe area, inspect the affected components. If cracks are confirmed, replace or repair the affected parts. Permanent remedy schedule (planned) — Phase 2, January 2014: ③ 2007–2009 model year FRS90, FSS90.
Corrective action
On affected vehicles, the exhaust pipe, exhaust pipe brackets, and clamps will be replaced with corrected/revised parts. Because procurement of corrected parts requires time and the location of the defect varies by vehicle model, permanent repairs will be prioritized for vehicles with the highest incidence of the defect.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 6 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
