Defect
On hybrid vehicles, the ECU program that controls the auxiliary power motor is improper. When the auxiliary battery's available power output drops due to low or high temperatures and the engine stalls during acceleration or just before stopping, the ECU continues to demand power generation from the motor even after the stall, causing the motor to rotate in reverse. As a result, the vehicle may travel at low speed in the direction opposite to the intended direction of travel.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the motor ECU with the corrected software.
