Filing in context
The Propeller shaft is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 17 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 40 Isuzu notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 3,316 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 11 months.
Defect
On four-wheel-drive vehicles, the center bearing bracket supporting the front propeller shaft has insufficient rigidity, and the clamp mating surface is machined to inadequate precision. Together, these conditions place excessive load on the mounting bolts. The bolts may fracture, generating abnormal noise. Continued use after fracture causes the bracket to fail, leaving the propeller shaft unsupported and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, replace the mounting bracket and the affected bolts with corrected parts.
