Defect

The material used for the pillow ball joint holder — which connects the rear wheel brake master cylinder to the brake pedal — is inadequate. When exposed to water containing de-icing agents, the aluminum joint holder corrodes, causing the internal pillow ball to bind. Continued use allows the joint holder and pillow ball to seize completely, making it impossible to operate the brake pedal. Alternatively, if significant force is applied to the brake pedal while the joint holder and pillow ball are seized, the joint holder may fracture, resulting in loss of brake operation.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the complete pillow ball joint assembly with the corrected part.

状況

 後輪ブレーキのマスターシリンダーとブレーキペダルを継ぐピロボールジョイントホル ダーの材質が不適切なため、凍結防止剤等を含んだ水で被水すると当該ジョイントホルダ ーのアルミ材が腐食し、内部のピロボールの動きが渋くなるものがある。そのため、その まま使用を続けると、ジョイントホルダーとピロボールが固着してブレーキペダルを操作 できなくなるおそれがある。または、ジョイントホルダーとピロボールが固着した状態で ブレーキペダルに強い力が働くと、ジョイントホルダーが破損し、ブレーキ操作ができな くなるおそれがある。

改善措置

全車両、ピロボールジョイント一式を対策品と交換する。
