Defect
The input shaft of the transfer case for four-wheel-drive vehicles was improperly machined, causing a seal failure at the oil seal interface with the connected manual transmission. As a result, lubricating oil leaks from the manual transmission. Continued use allows gear damage and abnormal noise to develop and, in the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the transfer case input shaft and the manual transmission oil seal with corrected parts.
