Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Other (Electrical Equipment) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Isuzu notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 1,674 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
On diesel engine-equipped vehicles, inadequate airflow directed to the manual transmission causes the transmission oil temperature to rise excessively. This accelerates chemical wear on the reverse light switch contact points, leading to poor contact and failure of the reverse lights to illuminate. Alternatively, conductive deposits may accumulate and cause a short circuit, disabling the reverse lights, instrument cluster, and warning lights.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected switch with a corrected part. On vehicles equipped with an under cover that lacks an air duct opening, also replace the under cover with a corrected part that includes the duct opening.
